Set your 2025 Goals
An Image of the Doom Spiral of Procrastination - Forever Checking Email, Web Orders, Social Media and the News

It’s January and you’re exhausted and now you have to set goals as well?

The annual goal setting extravaganza is tough for makers.

It’s hard not to get swept up in the energy of a new year and a new beginning but it’s putting it mildly to say that most of use are not at our best in January.

What if I just want to sleep and eat chocolate?

We’ve all had a long, stressful and emotionally exhausting Christmas selling season. We’ve spent weeks lurching between anxiety about whether the sales would come and then either overwhelmed exhaustion when they do, or crushing disappointment and fear when they don’t.

Plus we’ve probably had more interactions than we would like with the kind of customers we wish would just bother someone else, but we can’t afford to say it.

Then we go straight into a family Christmas that may have been fun, stressful, expensive, tense, or maybe just the final push until you could lie down in a cool, dark room.

But in January the world is ready to get shouty again

Because everyone else had more rest at the end of the year than we did. There were office Christmas parties, and days where nothing much got done, and maybe even two full weeks off work (for my U.S friends, yes this is a real thing in the UK – pretty much all office jobs close down for two weeks)

And when January rolls around, they are ready to get hyped, while we are ready to hibernate.

So you’ll hear a lot of:

“Crush your year”

“Create an in depth roadmap of everything you want to achieve this year”

“Stop playing small and set some big audacious goals”

And you may feel like you’re slacking, or at least wasting an opportunity if you don’t join in.

A different approach for makers

It’s really hard to resist the pull of setting goals in January. And quite honestly, it IS a good time to do it.

But we do need a slightly different approach.

One that recognises that most of us will need to make a slightly slower start, if we want to avoid crashing and burning in the third week of January like a New Year gym goer.

We might also not make the best choices in January (because exhaustion), so we need a system that can be flexible and let us adapt when we’re feeling a bit more rested.

I’ve been helping makers to do goals differently for 10 years.

I’m Nicola and I’m the founder of Maker’s Business Toolkit and the creator of the Maker’s Yearbook – a planner for artists, makers and handmade business owners.

Over the years, I’ve watched thousands of makers use the yearbook and I’ve worked personally with a lot of them to help them set goals that are motivating and meaningful, rather than stressful and confusing.

Plus I was a maker for many years, so I’ve experienced the January exhaustion and lack of motivation that can make it difficult to set goals and be all sparkly and ambitious for the new year.

I’ve seen what works for small creative businesses and what doesn’t. And the traditional method of setting goals doesn’t work for most of us. Luckily I’ve found a better way to do goals and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Join me to work on your 2025 goals in a way specifically designed for makers and small creative businesses

In this On Demand workshop you’ll work on your 2025 goals in a way specifically designed for the needs of makers and small creative businesses.

I’ll show you why traditional goal setting doesn’t work for businesses like ours and introduce you to my gentler approach to goal setting, which is perfect for exhausted makers who want to get clear on what they want for 2025, but need to refill their tank before they can even think about “crushing it”

I’ll show you how to work more mindfully throughout the year, so that you’re making progress towards your goals even when you don’t have a lot of time for big projects.

And I’ll also show you how to use the Maker’s Yearbook for the best results.

The yearbook is the system I created to support me in my own business when I kept setting goals and doing nothing about them. A lot of experience has gone into it and there is a kind of science behind why it’s structured the way it is and why it so often works for people who haven’t had success with other planners.

I’ll open up the hood and explain how and why the system works and show you some common mistakes made by the hundreds of yearbook users I have personally worked with.

But this won’t just be a showcase of the yearbook. It will be about how to set a direction and structure your year’s work to achieve the things you want, even when your life keeps interrupting.

Here’s what we’ll cover

➡️ Session 1 – Making the Most of Your Yearbook (45 mins)

I’ve used the yearbook myself and I’ve also watched thousands of other people use it. I know what works and I know the common pitfalls that cause people to get stressed and overwhelmed by their planner.

In this session I’ll show you how to use the Maker’s Yearbook in a simple and low stress way that you can stick with, avoiding overwhelm and unrealistic expectations.

I’ll talk you through the routines and how to adapt them to your own circumstances. I’ll also give you some tips for consistent usage and show you how to get back to using the yearbook when you’ve stopped.

➡️ Session 2 – 2025 Goal Setting Intensive (2 hours)

In this session, we’re going to work together to get your 2025 goals in place.

We’ll review 2024, and decide what we want and need from 2025.

We’ll set our annual goals, and talk about what makes a goal effective in getting what you want, rather than leaving you frustrated and disappointed.

And once you’ve set your goals, we’ll talk about how to gather the skills and resources you need to make them happen. And we’ll also look at how to break them down into jobs to be done, without filling your schedule to the point that you can’t handle life’s ups and downs.

➡️ Session 3 – Live Coaching and Q+A (90 mins)

In this session I’ll be answering questions from particpants who attended on the day.

I’ll be helping them to implement these plans in their businesses and work out how to overcome some of their most pressing challenges.

I truly love Nicola’s teaching style. She has an incredible gift.

She really “gets” people, what is holding them back, and has a kind way of helping address what really is going on and guides you to the next step without being overwhelming.

Nicola’s advice is like an MBA at my fingertips. Apart from the sound business advice, her coaching is excellent.

Sometimes I think she’s reading my mind! And then comes the pep talk.
