Everything You Need to Know About Makers’ Momentum Club

Makers' Momentum Club

Have you ever heard of Makers’ Momentum Club (MMC)?

Put simply, Makers’ Momentum Club helps artists, makers and craftspeople transform their businesses into thriving careers.

The club has over 400 painters, potters, bookbinders, soap makers, jewellery makers, clothes designers, textile artists, knitters and yarn dyers (to name a few).

You might be wondering if Makers’ Momentum Club is suitable for you?

In this blog post, I will go through the most common questions about the club.

But this is no sales pitch. It’s important that I only attract members who are the right fit and will get value from MMC. This is why this blog post is an unbiased overview of Makers’ Momentum Club. You can use it to decide if it’s right for you.

Let’s get stuck in.

What is Makers’ Momentum Club?

Inside the membership for artists, craftspeople and makers

Makers’ Momentum Club is an online membership for creative business owners. As a member, you’ll gain access to an in-depth 48-week business foundation course and over 30 5-day challenges that help you achieve a specific business goal. There are also live Q&A sessions and a community that brings all artists, makers and craftspeople together.

Why did I create Makers’ Momentum Club?

Yes, I run Makers’ Momentum Club, but I’m also a fine art photographer. And when I first started selling my fine art photography, I thought it would be simple. You make something. You sell it. Easy-peasy, right?

But actually, no, it wasn’t.

Starting a business is incredibly tough, especially when you’re selling something personal. It’s selling the thing you love. The thing you pour all your spare time into doing. And, yes, that passion drives us, but it can also cloud our judgement, especially when it comes to making business decisions.

This came as a shock to me because for the first seven years of my professional life, I worked in financial services. And I thought I knew A LOT about business. And I did. But what I discovered from selling my fine art photography is our love for our work has so many advantages, yet it can also be our biggest weakness.

I had to work hard to make my fine art photography business a success, and I had to make some tough business decisions. At the time, I would’ve loved a place like Makers’ Momentum Club to learn from and be my guide.

That’s why I set up Makers’ Momentum Club. I want to help you transform your creative work into a thriving, profitable business that allows you to do the thing you love and get paid well for it. That’s what Makers’ Momentum Club is all about.
What’s included in Makers’ Momentum Club?

Now to the nitty-gritty: what’s included within the club, and how will it benefit you?

5-Day Challenges

Each challenge is designed to help you improve in one specific area of your business, with videos and resources for each day of the challenge.

There are over 30 challenges available, for example social media strategy, approaching shops and galleries, and pricing your products.

The Makers’ Business Foundation

The most challenging hurdle for makers is the transition from ‘hobbyist’ to business owner. (I know, I’ve been there.) Because when you set up a business, there is A LOT to do and consider.

This is why I put together this 48-week video masterclass on exactly how to build a solid foundation for your business. I teach you everything from product lines and marketing to branding and finances.

Monthly ‘Office Hour’ Q&A Sessions

One of the trickiest parts of running a business is not knowing where to go to ask questions. You have to be the owner, marketer, accountant and maker all rolled into one. It can feel a bit daunting.

This is why my lively Q&A sessions are so popular. Once a month, you can join me and your fellow makers and ask anything about building and growing your business.

Facebook Community

Making business decisions is challenging, and one of the hardest parts of doing it all yourself is that you can’t ask anyone for guidance.

That’s why at the heart of Makers’ Momentum Club is the community of passionate people who, like you, want to build a thriving, profitable business. We focus on getting things done, and we help each other along the way. You can access the community via a private Facebook group.

How much does it cost?

The cost of Makers’ Momentum Club is £19.00 per month. Or £190.00 per year.

Why is this the cost?

I always aim to overdeliver on price. So for £19.00 per month, you get a lot for your money, including the 48-week business foundation course, 30 5-day challenges and live Q&A sessions.

I will continue to add to the club, and as the amount of content in MMC increases, so too will the price.
Who is Makers’ Momentum Club for?

MMC is for anyone who classes themselves a maker, artist or craftsperson – we have everyone from children’s clothes designers to jewellery makers and photographers to bakers. We also have many business owners in our membership who sell their creative work by teaching workshops or delivering digital downloads.

Most importantly, we’re aimed at anyone who wants to put in the work to build a thriving business. Sometimes, I’ll encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. And if you’re excited about that, then MMC is definitely for you.

Who is Makers’ Momentum Club NOT for?

We’re exclusively for makers, artists and craftspeople, and if that’s not you, we’re not the right fit.

For those of you who want to sell your services to makers, artists and craftspeople, I see you! But, unfortunately, we’re not suitable for you either. I’m protective of my little community and don’t feel comfortable with companies selling to them. MMC is a space for creative business owners to find answers to their problems without someone selling to them.

Finally, we’re anti-drama. Our community is business-focused, and, unlike many free Facebook groups, we get stuff done and support each other positively.

Who is your trainer?Nicola, founder of Makers' Momentum Club

Hey, I’m Nicola! And I run Makers’ Momentum Club. I spent 7 years working 60–70 hour weeks in the financial services industry until, at 33, I decided I’d had enough.

I left my career and studied photography before becoming a fine art photographer.

I have experienced all the highs and lows of transforming my passion into a successful creative business, and now I’m here to help you do the same.

Is there a refund policy?

There is no refund policy as you can access all the 30+ courses and 48-week foundation programme straight away. But you can cancel your payment at any time.

Can’t I just join a free Facebook group?

There are plenty of free Facebook groups out there aimed at makers, artists and craftspeople that you can join. Perhaps you’re a member of some yourself? Some are better than others, but they still have a few problems:

You can’t learn constructively – there aren’t usually courses or resources within free Facebook groups that help you grow your business. And certainly not ones that go in depth.

You can get caught up in the drama – not everyone who is a part of a free Facebook group is committed to developing their business. Some people want to be controversial or have a moan, but all this does is distract you from your business.

Lots of promotion – even though they’re free, there will be people trying to sell stuff to you regularly.

Will it work for me?

I often get the question, will it work for me if…? So let’s run through some of those.

Will it work for me if I’m just starting out?

Yes! If you’re ready to transform your hobby into a business, then MMC will help you. Our Makers’ Business Foundation is a 48-week video course that will help you build a solid base for your business.

It takes you through everything you need to build a thriving creative business – your product line, customers, marketing, branding and mindset.

Will it work for me if I’m already getting sales?

Absolutely. I don’t just help creative business owners build their businesses, I love to help them grow too.

That’s where our 5-day challenges come in. There are over 30 challenges to choose from that will help you grow your business, including ‘make more sales’, ‘effortless email marketing’ and ‘social media strategy’.

What will I need to get started?

All you need is a willingness to learn and push yourself, plus access to the internet. That’s it!

I hate Facebook. Can I still join?

I get it. Some people do hate Facebook. However, the community is something I’d recommend you take part in as you can gain valuable advice and feedback (and make new friends too!).

Some members create Facebook accounts that they use for ‘business only’, i.e. they don’t connect with anyone else. They simply use their Facebook account just to join us!

What results should I expect?

Everyone is following a different journey in their creative business, and I could include lots of eye-catching stats here about the amount that some of our members have sold.

Instead, I want to tell you what the club does for all members, no matter where they are in their journey:

    • It gives you the practical skills and knowledge you need to run a successful creative business.
It gives you more confidence to promote your business and get rid of imposter syndrome.
It gives you a sense of community by being part of a group of fellow makers.
It feels like someone is in your corner – championing you, giving you advice and getting you out of your comfort zone
